If you want lessons you need to book well ahead this season as the mountain has far fewer coaches than normal as many overseas workers have not been able to travel to NZ. Once the mountain was closed and we tried to change our bookings to subsequent days it was impossible to change all the lessons as they were fill. Lots of people seemed to be arriving on the day trying to book lessons for their children with no luck. The lessons were great. Much better on the Wednesday and Thursday but much more crowded on the Friday (and I imagine weekend as well). My 15 year old was very lucky, at 15 you can choose to do eiher Adult or Childs lessons. Adult lessons seemed to be far less crowded and moved more quickly. The snowboard coaches he had (Nick, Dan, Matt and Noah) were fabulous, really took a genuine interest and he progressed quickly and loved it. My 12 year old skiier had a different experience with children of all ages grouped together so he was learning with much younger children in really large groups which moved much more slowly.

Methven Snowbus (opens in new window) runs buses departing from Methven and Christchurch to Mt Hutt. Can I purchase food at the ski area? There is a fully-licensed café and bar (opens in new window) at Mt Hutt. For an Alpine flavour enjoy the rustic charm of Opuke Kai. What type of lessons does the ski area provide? Mt Hutt Snowsports School offer a range of ski and snowboard lessons (opens in new window) and programmes for all ages and ability levels including first timers, group lessons, private lessons and a variety of longer more specialised clinics. Does the ski area have a terrain park? Rookies and Intermediates are catered to in the mini park whilst the Experts can hit the features in the Advanced park. Does the ski area offer any childcare or crèche services? Mt Hutt offers a licensed Early Learning Centre (opens in new window) for children 2-5 years. Mt Hutt offers full day and half day group lessons for kids from 5 years of age everyday. Kids 7 years and under receive free day lift passes every day.
